Christian love is SACRIFICIAL love. It can mean various things--sacrificing our time and/or our money to make sure others' needs are met, and it may mean giving up something we like--for some people, it may mean giving up guns and calling for strong gun control laws to make sure everyone will be safe, or for other people, it may mean during this pandemic wearing a mask, social distancing, and getting vaxxed/boosted even though your political beliefs cause you to think doing those things are stupid. And yes, some people resist all those things because of their political beliefs, even though weak gun control laws enable murder and not observing covid protocols lead to death, and this lack of caring is equivalent to the people who are pro-abortion/pro-choice...some people just don't care who dies.  Letting other people decide for themselves about the pandemic response is no different from being pro-abortion or pro-choice or thinking it's okay to drink or for everyone to have guns. Preachers and elders who have never urged the congregation to mask up and get vaxxed and boosted are not being helpful. We're supposed to spur each other on to love and good works and do good to everyone. Calling for observing covid protocols and calling for strong gun control laws, or, at best, a total gun ban and promoting abstinence or domestic adoption is all a part of doing good and spurring each other on to love and good works! How are we helping everyone recognize Jesus? Are we acting in such a way that they will recognize Him when we tell about Him? Or will they not see Him because of the way we act? I certainly don't see Him in the guns-in-pews crowd! Or the anti-maskers/anti-vaxxers/personal choice people! I only see people who are thinking through their politics! Are we caring or do we think through the culture or the political party we vote for? Or do we have the mind of Christ? Christianity is BEYOND CULTURE. Cf. Mark 6 If we want people to listen to us, we have to set a good example and that includes caring what happens to everyone and caring what happens to everyone includes masking/vaxxing and calling for strong gun control laws!! Do we really want to listen to people who think through their politics?
