Aphorisms by icopyedit

icopyediting's aphorisms . . . things I wrote in my journal or said in conversation with verious people:

"Pinch hitters are for baseball, not healthcare!"

"Capitalism is the best economic system, but it shouldn’t determine how you treat people."

"Family isn’t more important than morality."

"Patriotism: wanting the best for your fellow citizens."

"It might not be nice, but it’s true."

"Regret corrodes one’s spirit."

"Condemnation alienates."

"Appropriating pejorative terms reinforces the negative attitude that led to those terms in the first place."

"Just because someone was raised like you, it doesn’t mean they have the same values as you."

"Platitudes don’t address the complexities of life."

"If you make excuses and rationalizations for your behavior, you already know what you need to do and are just trying to get out of doing it."

"Don’t rationalize disobedience."

"Things aren’t moving when you are only moving your mouth."

"Once a farm team, always a farm team" (said about the Texas Rangers, who have supplied many a skilled player to the American and National Leagues).

It's not a service-based economy when you can't contact someone by phone or email when you have a question about a product, investment, etc. and only get an IVR or other sort of computerized "help" when you really need another human being to talk to!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
